If your idea of a perfect vacation involves turquoise waters, hassle-free days, and incredible food, you are in the right place. We recently returned from a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise aboard the Regal Princess, sailing out of Fort Lauderdale with stops in Cozumel, Belize, and Roatán.
This trip was all about relaxing, recharging, and enjoying each other’s company—and we couldn't have asked for a better week.
Upgrading the Experience: Was Princess Plus Worth It?
Before setting sail, we decided to add the Princess Plus package to our booking, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of the trip. The package covered our prepaid gratuities, Wi-Fi, four Casual Dining meals per guest, up to 12 bottles of water daily, and 15 drinks per day.
This included specialty coffees, teas, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages. Dawn loved starting every single morning with a specialty coffee. Having the package also gave us the freedom to try fun new cocktails without worrying about the bill. My personal favorite? The Bugsy—a delicious blend of Bailey’s Irish Cream, crème de menthe, espresso, and cream.
Life On Board: Cabin B250 & The MedallionClass Magic
We booked a balcony cabin on Deck 11 Aft (B250). It was remarkably spacious, with more than enough storage to handle all my overpacking!
Despite being built in 2014 and refurbished in 2017, the Regal Princess is in beautiful condition and doesn't show her age at all. One feature that truly sets Princess apart is the Medallionclass system. Every cruise line needs to adopt this! It’s a quarter-sized wearable disc that replaces traditional cruise cards and offers some amazing perks:
Touchless Door Locks: Your stateroom door unlocks automatically as you approach.
On-Demand Delivery: Crew members can locate you anywhere on the ship to deliver food and drinks ordered through the app.
Shipmate Locator: You can easily track friends and family on board via the app, which is a game-changer for families traveling together.
Ports of Call: Cozumel, Roatán, & Rainy Day Luck in Belize
Our port strategy for Cozumel (Day 3) and Roatán (Day 5) was all about beating the crowds. We headed off the ship early, strolled through the port shops, and then returned to the vessel around midday. Doing this meant we had the pool deck almost entirely to ourselves while everyone else was on tour!
Day 4 brought us to Belize, which is a tender port. We woke up to pouring rain—a bit nerve-wracking since this was the one port where we had an excursion planned! Fortunately, the skies cleared just 30 minutes before our tour began. We took the Open-Air Trolley Train, which took us past all the major Belize City landmarks. It was fun, comfortable, and a highly recommended way to catch a quick overview of the city's rich history.
Dining Highlights: From Pizza to Prime Cut
The food throughout the entire week was stellar. We ate in the Main Dining Room almost every evening, and honestly, there wasn't a single dish we didn't enjoy. However, a few meals truly stood out:
Crown Grill ($55 upcharge per person): Hands down the best meal of the week. The steaks and service were phenomenal, making the small surcharge worth every penny.
Alfredo’s Pizzeria: Perfect for a sit-down lunch. I fell in love with The New Yorker, while Dawn thoroughly enjoyed the Honey Pie.
A New Dessert Obsession: I tried Tiramisu for the very first time on this trip and immediately realized what I had been missing out on my whole life!
Evening Entertainment
After dinner, our nights were filled with laughs and music. We became regulars at the nightly karaoke sessions—it didn't take long for us to pick out a few favorite crowd performers that we looked forward to hearing every night. We also caught both comedy acts on board; each comedian performed a PG early show and an 18+ adult late show, both of which had us in stitches.
The Verdict
Did we succeed in our mission to unwind? Absolutely.
The Regal Princess delivered an unforgettable week of great food, smooth logistics, and much-needed relaxation. We are already looking into a Princess Alaska cruise for 2028—though we’ll probably have to squeeze another sailing in before then!
